Porting In
This is called “porting in.” Your first step is to contact your current housing authority so that they can determine if you are eligible to port out of their area. They will send HASCO a packet with your information and will tell you what to do next.
You can reach HASCO’s portability team at port@hasco.org
No. HASCO is billing the initial housing authority.
No. HASCO does not participate in the FSS program. If you are porting to our area and you are a current FSS participant, please discuss with your current FSS caseworker how a portability move will affect your FSS participation.
No. Please contact other housing authorities if this is a program that you would like to participate in.
Porting Out
It is possible to keep your housing support and move to an area outside of HASCO’s coverage area. This is called portability, meaning you transfer or “port” your rent support to a new Public Housing Agency (PHA). Anywhere outside of Snohomish County is outside of HASCO’s coverage area.
Planning ahead is important. We recommend you contact us at least two (2) months before you want to move.
Contact your HASCO Housing Specialist (Can we change this to say, “Contact housing@hasco.org”) about when and where you wish to move
HASCO will confirm that you are moving within the rules of your existing lease agreement and qualify for continued rent support
HASCO sends the necessary paperwork to the new PHA, often called the receiving PHA, so the receiving PHA can issue vouchers to your new landlord
The receiving PHA may require you to reapply for support in their coverage area
Your support may change from the level you receive through HASCO; the number of bedrooms and rent amount will be based on the receiving PHA’s standards.
You must give notice of your planned move-out to your current landlord according to your lease agreement. You must also complete the Portability Request Form.
